As you all know, I am a babywearing mama and have been an Ergo Baby fan for a long time. So when people kept telling me I should give the Tula a try, I kept coming up against a wall of “How is it any different from the Ergo?,” and couldn’t get a good answer.

Then my interest was piqued as my baby officially became a toddler and I discovered that Tulas come in a specially made size just for toddlers. So I ordered a gorgeous gray chevron toddler Tula and trekked around a local theme park for the day.

I love it! And I’ll tell you why:

The pouch is the perfect size for a toddler. It is wider and taller than the Ergo.

There is a padded rail for his legs. When I wear my toddler in the Ergo, he always has these red lines under his thighs because of the narrowness and the edge of the pouch.

The structure and material of the pouch feels like a hammock. To be honest, I’m not even sure how to really articulate the details of this but you know that feeling of a baby in a wrap where it just feels like you and your baby wrapped in a second skin? The Tula somehow manages to capture that feeling but with the support of a structured carrier. I find myself always lovingly rubbing his back through the hammock-like pouch of the Tula.

 The Tula provides superb comfort and support for the wearer in the padded waistband and shoulder straps.

It has a wider pouch for more discrete breastfeeding. As you all know, I am a big advocate of breastfeeding in public. This does not mean I enjoy trekking about the world with my boobs hanging out. And the wider fabric pouch wraps around the nipple zip code for more coverage while breastfeeding on the go.

The higher rise on the back of the pouch is snugglier and more secure. The pouch fabric does allow my little man to pop his arms over the top and interact with the world but it is taller so I can pull the fabric up and he is completely secure. This encourages more cuddliness (swoon) but also provides him more support for all the physical adventures I embark on while conquering the world with his older brothers. Plus, it keeps him more in the shade while we are out in the sun.

The hood is detachable. While the accent color of my hood is super fab, I don’t really use it. Which is fine, since the hood completely detaches. The rise of the pouch is high enough that his head is supported while he sleeps and we have ample discretion while nursing. He can snooze with a nipple in his mouth while I use both hands scaling a playground structure all with no worries.

My hubs also rocks it and loves it.

The Tula Toddler is my daily uniform with a busy toddler in tow. It keeps my babe connected, my hands free, and our lifestyle adventurous. If you are committed to an attachment style of parenting but have a big, busy kiddo, you’re gonna love the Tula Toddler as much as I am.
