This is episode 16 and today I’m here with Taylor Davis talking about Math.

Taylor is a former teacher turned passionate life learner, unschooling mama to 3 kids, and advocate for self-directed education.  She co-hosts the podcast, One Free Family, with her husband James. She is also a birth and postpartum doula, childbirth educator, and birth rights activist.

Adventure of the Week

I share our tour of an Austrian chocolate factory.

Highlights

School Math: We discuss the way math is taught in school and why it’s not compatible with the ways we know children learn.

Math Anxiety/Phobia: We dig underneath this widespread export of math education and contextualize it as shame.

Natural Math: We talk about how numeracy develops naturally.

Picture: We share what that natural numeracy development looks like in our families.

Gaps: We speak to the fear of kids reaching adulthood with gaps in their math knowledge.

Q+A

We tackle the question of how to help our kids with math when we struggle with math ourselves.

I work from an island in the Pacific Northwest, where I live wild and free in connection with my hilarious husband and three growing sailors in our fixer upper on the beach. I authentically live this healing work out loud raising my own neurodivergent family (inner child included) and draw on my decades of education and experience (I've done all the nerdy work so you don't have to) to guide a revolution of overwhelmed parents just like you to feeling at peace within yourself, consciously connected with your children, embraced by a supportive community, and enjoying a values-aligned life you love.
